📋 PROJECT OVERVIEW

🎯 THE THREAT

Peak Cluster is a £5 billion carbon capture project that will transport over 3 million tonnes of CO2 annually from cement and lime plants across Derbyshire, Cheshire, and Merseyside to offshore storage in Morecambe Bay.

  • Pipeline Diameter: Up to 91.4cm (36 inches)
  • Total Length: 290km (200km onshore + 90km offshore)
  • CO2 Volume: 3+ million tonnes per year
  • Pressure: High-pressure "dangerous fluid" classification
  • Status: Phase 1 consultation complete (Jan-Feb 2026)

🏘️ COMMUNITIES AT RISK

The pipeline route passes through some of England's most beloved landscapes, including the Peak District National Park, rural Cheshire, and the Wirral coast. Over 30 towns and villages are directly affected.

  • Cheshire: Macclesfield, Tarporley, Holmes Chapel
  • Merseyside: Willaston, Leasowe, Hoylake
  • Protected Areas: Peak District NP, Ramsar wetlands
